It Never Ends!

Today's the day! Finally the day has arrived that the original Marvel comic storyline is continued in the world of the Transformers! It's probably mostly nostalgia, but I've always loved the original run of comics; what started as a four issue limited series and eventually expanded to eighty issues has finally come back to life! It is no secret that the original storyline was cut short by dwindling sales, but how cool is it that IDW was able to work with the original creators to bring it back and finish it in a proper way? I feel especially lucky as my copy features Cover B, complete with throwback coloring techniques (remember all the tiny dots?) and featuring a retro Optimus Prime in the top left corner. It might as well be 1991 all over again! I haven't read it yet, I am still savoring the feeling, but never before have I been this excited about a comic release. I may share my thoughts on it later.

On another note, I also picked up Volume 1 of Battlepug! I've been following the web series for a while and it is great to finally see this hilarious series in hardback form. It's a great read if you're looking for a little dark humor.

  1. That is a sharp looking cover!! I'll wait until Regeneration One is collected before I give it a spin.

    1. It's great isn't it? I just couldn't wait two years for the collected works and plus I've already got all the other individual issues. I never thought I'd be adding to those!

    1. Yes, I will probably buy the collected volume as well, just to have. Plus they always include extras :)

  3. Wow, Simon Furman and Andy Wildman! Those names bring back memories! BTW, do you have the UK run of the comics as well?

    1. Yeah it was great they were able to get back together for this! I don't have the individual UK issues, but I do have a lot of the collected works so I was able to read the stories at least.

  4. I get my IDW stuff on my iPad, and I just downloaded 80 & 81. Unfortunately, I'm totally lost because I never really read the Marvel comics and have been trying to slowly catch up. Its cool to see the Retro style for sure, even though I LOVE IDWs various styles as well. I believe they have the Marvel series, or at least a start to them on the iPad app, so I'll have to see if I can catch up.

    Lol, Battlepug. Awesome.

    1. Yes, it is definitely worth catching up! If you don't feel like reading the entire Marvel run, you could probably start with issue 55 and go through issue 80 to get all of the most important stuff. But if you have a chance I would definitely say the read all of it if you can! There are also a few resources on the web that have all of the comics scanned page by page but it is much more cumbersome that way.
