Generation One Dutch Poster Catalog

I picked up this very interesting piece of paperwork a few months ago, I thought it was a beautiful representation of the '86 and '87 figures. When folded up it is 6" x 9", which is still pretty large for a catalog. Unfolded it is 18" x 24", quite large indeed. Though there are some oddities of note on here that I found interesting.

A Quick Update: G1 Tracks and Kup

I'm considering doing mini updates every time I finish off a figure for my new display, so this is in some ways a test. Here are two I've just finished, enjoy the beauty of the "catalog"shots:

I also did a new background test, but I fear trying to do this for every picture may take up too much time. I think it turned out pretty though!

That's two more down, only about 320 to go!

A Preview of Things to Come

They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, which is how I am feeling about my newest collecting venture. After taking over twenty seven years to accumulate the entire run of Generation One toys, I am setting myself up to do it all over again.

Where is everyone going? The Exodus

I've become aware of an ever increasing trend in the Transformers community lately: longtime prominent collectors scaling back by orders of magnitude, or getting out of the hobby altogether. I must admit I am not immune to this recent trend as I have recently written about on this very blog. But why are so many collectors seemingly abandoning something they have spent years of their lives working on and obsessing over? I don't know for sure, but I have a few theories.

A Very Special Gift (Part III)

I thought it only appropriate to post the last of the three gifts I received as a result of Charticon on the cusp of the one-year anniversary of the official start to the show (August 9th). This gift is perhaps the most meaningful, not only because it was so unexpected, but because it came from the entire staff of the show, whom all became my good friends after the show was over.

Generation 2 Laser Cycle Soundwave

After recently coming to terms with my collecting habits and changing them drastically for the first time in over twenty years I am beginning to look for a different type of figure to collect. Something that isn't part of the mainstream, something unique and that would really stand out in my collection. How fitting that the first item in this category is none other than the unreleased Generation 2 Laser Cycle Soundwave.

A Very Special Gift (Part II)

As I mentioned before, as a result of organizing and running Charticon last year I received a number of very unexpected gifts from friends all over the world. Each of these was unique in its own way and I wanted to showcase them here because they are all so cool.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (yes, I'm going there)

Originally I had absolutely no inclination to write anything about the new Transformers movie that came out this past weekend. HOWEVER, upon seeing it I just don't think I can contain myself. This isn't a review by any stretch of the imagination, like pretty much everything else on this blog, this is just an very opinionated dialogue. Warning, heavy spoilers below. Proceed at your own risk.

Verzamel De Transformeerbare Robots

In the absence of collecting figures, I have recently taken to collecting paperwork. Whereas most Transformers released in different countries are more or less the same (with some notable exceptions such as Mexican Prowl or Canadian Slag) the paperwork is almost always different. So sometimes I like to seek out catalogs or comics released in other countries. My most recent acquisition was of a catalog/comic from the Netherlands, which I believe may have come packaged with the figures but I can't be sure. However the differences in this catalog are drastic.

MP-22 The Ultra Magnus We Deserve

I'm sure most people have probably already seen these pics already, but they were all just so good I couldn't help but reproduce them here. I am so incredibly excited for this figure.

The Loyal Subjects X The Transformers

This is an odd purchase for me, I usually don't go for off-the-wall stuff like this, but I was in a local bookstore the other day and these happened to catch my eye. And because I'm such a G1 nerd I couldn't help but purchase one.

A Very Special Gift

Charticon provided me with many opportunities. It gave me the chance to meet people I had only known online prior, it allowed me to experience running a convention from the "other side" as it were, and it provided me with invaluable insight to the community as a whole. One very unexpected result of the show was that I was given some wonderful gifts for helping some people out. This is the first of these.

Back In the World Again

I thought about just making a new post like nothing hadn't happened, but I realized it would probably be better to address my five and a half month absence. The truth is, for a while I had given up on this blog and Transformers in general.
